![]() 44 Mag ammo loaded to SAAMI pressure ratings, which I assume would be all factory ammo, as I'd think it would be a liability nightmare to sell ammo loaded to higher pressures than the industry standard. It's my understanding that the S&W 29 series can handle any. The stuff that S&W says are strictly a no go in the 29/629. Make sure your revolver ammo will cycle in your carbine : ) I consider "normal" in the range of 240's 1400 or less, 300's 1200 or less. 454, or any of the multiple other heavy hitter big bores.Įdit: OP if you plan to shoot what's considered "normal" 44 mag you can pick whichever revolver makes you happy. 44 mag requires some self education, or, just stepping up to. None of this applies to most 44 shooters and the people who launch 330's and heavier as hard as they can have figured out long ago what works in what. The brass/copper alloy bullets being longer for the same weight, samo samo, need a lot of cylinder length for the heavier versions. Garrett's 330 grain Long Hammerhead for example, needs a long cylinder just to fit it. 44 loads that are physically too long OAL for some cylinders even tho the revolver is stout enough to handle them in large number. That knowledge is decades old.īut there are some heavy for caliber. You WILL batter the gun into a non usable state after a while. You won't blow up a S&W N with 330's over 1400 fps. It would be odd for Colt to bring it back in a weaker version but who knows. I have never and still don’t own anything Smith, not that I have anything against them, I just haven’t run across anything from them I need.īuffalo bore listed the original Anaconda for their heaviest loads. I’m considering the king cobra as I didn’t get one when they were out in the 90s as i was all about the 44 magnum back then. I know we hate colt nowadays, but I would consider one of those if I didn’t have one already. I passed on the deal and haven’t looked back. It fit my hand OK, but the mass, trigger and just overall feel were not the same. I went to a local shop and checked out a 629 ( it was about half the price of what I was offered for my colt ). I have had several guys try to buy it from me. ![]() I think it was almost an even trade (I think I paid $60 difference) for the snake v/s the Ruger. As they were brand new, the dealer was having special deals. The Anaconda came out, went to the local fun store, handled one and it fir my hand much better. The grip on the Ruger just wasn’t comfortable, shot it for several years anyway. I started off with a Ruger Redhawk with a 7 1/2” barrel (couldn’t afford the expensive S&W, plus I don’t think the 629 was out yet and I like stainless!).
